When I was younger, a neighbor boy of two years my senior had a
chit-chat with me and he asked me these questions: "Do you know why
we exist on this earth since every man is born empty-handed into this
world and he will leave this world empty-handed too? What is the purpose
or meaning in life?" I pondered but neither did I know the true
reason for my existence in this world of pains and sufferings. Later I
found out the truth from the word of God that it is because of "The
Mighty God" (Isaiah 9:6) called Jesus Christ.
The Bible says, "For by Him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones, or powers, or rulers, or authorities; all things were created by Him and for Him. (Colossians 1:16)" Another passages in the scripture tell me that " You are worthy, O Lord, to receive glory and honor and power: for you have created all things, and for your PLEASURE they are and were created. (Revelation 4: 11)" God's ways are indeed higher than our ways. I was born in a small town in Mukah, Sarawak. At the age of 6, my family and I moved to another town known as Sibu. I was brought up in a nominal Christian family without any basic knowledge of what Christianity is all about. My parents being not well off, had to struggle to raise up 5 children at that time and there was hardly any talk about God in our family. We seldom went to Church at all. At the age of 7, my mother sent me to a missionary school because I could not enroll in a Chinese school. Within the school's compound, there was a church which had a huge crucifix of Jesus Christ fixed to the wall behind the altar. One day, as I stared at the crucifix, I began to wonder as why He was nailed to the Cross and why people came to worship Him. "Was He a criminal? If not, why He was nailed to the Cross?…" In school, I learnt about the Almighty God and our Lord Jesus Christ through the basic Catechism lessons I received as part of my education. But, this knowledge of God in my head did not qualify me as a born-again Christian. I also had not come to know the events leading to the crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. I was then a timid boy and dared not ask my teacher any questions about it. My early childhood was painted with pictures of mischief - often fighting with other boys and even my younger brother. Sometimes I spoke foul words, involved in gambling, killing many innocent birds with catapult and destroying their nests. Neighbor said I was a bad boy as I destroyed the "home" of birds and made them "homeless". I was well known as a naughty boy in my neighborhood. ![]() During the show, my mind was making a quick evaluation of all the main religions I knew but none could compare with our Lord Jesus Christ. And when the evangelist made a call after the show for those who wanted to accept Jesus Christ as personal Lord and Savior to come forward, I was too timid to respond. But deep down in my heart and not only in my head, I decided to accept Jesus Christ at that moment and so I prayed silently with the evangelist who led us in prayer. However, I did not experience a dramatic conversion of my life until very much later. But the word of God had been sown in my heart and it was just a matter of time to germinate and experience spiritual growth. ![]() Being poor in our family, my greatest desire was to break the circle of poverty and acquire wealth. I told myself that this could be achieved through high education. But I was not a brilliant student and had to put in double effort in order to obtain good examination results. I prayed and God helped me to get through until Form Six. In 1987, the syllabus changed from General Paper to General Studies; I was feeling quite sick with flu on the day of examination but God miraculously helped me to pass it with credit, which I sat as a private candidate. I remembered that it was indeed an answered prayer by one of the Christian brothers who prayed together for me during the ministry time few months earlier. After I finished school, I became busy with work and seldom attended Church. Gradually I had collection of occult books from England that promised to bring luck and fortune. I even went secretly to consult fortune-tellers and changed my Chinese name with the hope to have better life. Instead of getting the blessing, I was in fact under the curse for disobedience. Not long after that, in 1988 I started to suffer from chronic illness. I often caught flu, experienced severe cold feet, gastric pain, chest pain, stiff neck and shoulder pain. I sought medical treatments but there was no real diagnosis. Life seemed so miserable when I was constantly sick. Even at that young age, I suffered from the illness like an old man. ![]() In the ensuing weeks and months, I began interested to read spiritual books and study the Bible more consistently. I also attended the Sunday Worship Service regularly. Being empowered by the Holy Spirit, I decided that I should serve God and share my testimonies about Jesus Christ to others. Later I developed more faith in God and prayed for my own healing from sickness. I am now in good health and never have to see any doctor ever since. Having said that, I must admit that I do fall sick sometimes but with God’s help, I can recover speedily. I am now in good health and set free from the curse. ![]() ![]() You can click the link here to read other interesting life testimonies from the Voice Magazine of Full Gospel Business Men's Fellowship (FGBMF) in Malaysia.
Note: If you want to accept Jesus Christ into your life,
please say the prayers aloud on the next page. The Bible says "
For with the heart man believes unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation ... For whosoever shall call upon
the name of the Lord shall be saved." (Romans 10:10 & 13)
